Hey! So, first of all, I wanted to say that for those of you who didn’t know, today, February 12, is KOTLC Day!! YAY! 🙂 Also, I’m going to be posting
a) Some spring/Easter DIYs
b) Some awesome Let the Sky Fall fan art!
Anyways, today I’m doing a review on The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart. This is another one of my favorite book series, and today I’m going to be featuring the first book in this trilogy.
Reynie Muldoon lives with his (awesome) aunt, and he’s always been clever. So when an ad shows up in the newspaper with the headline, “Are You a Gifted Child Looking for Special Opportunities?” Reynie and his aunt are instantly intrigued. Reynie takes part in a test that Saturday, that has some strange questions. He is later invited to stage two of testing.
After he learns that he has passed the test, he meets the other 3 who have joined him in his fate:
George “Sticky” Washington, who has probably read every book ever
Kate Wetherall, who is very adventurous and athletic
Constance Contraire, who, in line with her name, is extremely contrary. Constantly.
They are asked if they would like to join a team to complete a secret mission, which involves defeating Mr. Benedict’s (the leader of the operation) evil twin brother. Of course, they agree, and soon become they best of friends, learning more about themselves and what they can do alone, and more importantly, together.
This is a fast, fun read, and I recommend it to anyone 5th grade+, or possibly younger if you’re like a mature 3rd or 4th grader. The characters are instantly lovable, the plot is easy to follow and yet satisfactorily complex, and it makes you wonder just what you can do..
Happy KOTLC Day/ President’s Weekend/ Valentine’s Day/Let the Storm Break Paperback Release Day/ MMGM! Until next week,
